You may choose to purchase a more global .com name if, for example, you intend your website to promote your business outside Australia. There are a range of other domain name endings available should these be more suited to your site, including: .net.au, .org.au, .net, .org.

Your website needs to be hosted on professionally-managed, dedicated servers. This ensures not only a professional appearance, but provides the guarantee of business-critical hosting (sufficient data handling capacity, excellent up time and backup systems) and supports your site's functionality: you may need a form to collect user information, it may be a 'dynamic' website with a database providing part of its content, or you may require full eCommerce functionality.
